MY YEAR'S WORK

ASTRONOMY- MY FAVORITE PART OF ASTRONOMY MY 8TH GRADE YEAR WAS LEARNING ABOUT STARS, GALAXIES, AND UNIVERSE. I LIKED LEARNING ABOUT ALL THE CONSTELLATIONS THAT GROUP AT NIGHT WITH ALL THE STARS. I ALSO LIKED LEARNING ABOUT HOW TO CHARACTERIZE THE STARS. TEMPERATURE, COLOR, SIZE, COMPOSITION AND BRIGHTNESS. http://http//www.coseti.org/images/astronomy_2k2_1.jpg

WEATHER AND CLIMATE- MY FAVORITE PART OF WEATHER AND CLIMATE WAS LEARNING ABOUT THE WIND, AND HOW IT WORKS. LIKE HOW THE DIFFERENT TYPES OF WIND HELP AIR PLANES AND GLIDER PLANES GET TO THERE DESTINATION FASTER AND USE LESS GAS. WIND CAN BE MEASURED BY A ANEMOMETER.

GEOLOGY- I CANT REMEMBER MUCH FROM GEOLOGY, I REMEMBER GOING ONLINE AND DOING A ACTIVITY ON GEOLOGY I THINK... I REMEMBER LEARNING ABOUT PLATE TECHTONICS, AND SEA FLOOR SPREDING. SEA FLOOR SPREADING IS WHERE THE SEA FLOOR IS BEING SPREAD APART TAKING THE COTENINETS WITH THEM, DUE TO NEW CRUST BEING ADDED TO A MID-OCEAN RIDGE. THAT WAS FUN.http://http//www.lawrence.edu/dept/geology/qtz.jpg

WEATHERING AND EROSION-I REMEMBER THERE ARE TWO TYP
ES OF WEATHERING, MECHANICAL AND CHEMICAL...MECHANICAL MEANING WHERE ONE OBJECT PHYSICALLY WHERES AWAY AT ANOTHER. AND CHEMICAL BEING THE ONE THAT IS BROKEN DOWN BY CHEMICALS. EROSION IS THE REMOVAL OF ROCK PARTICLES BY WIND, ICE, WATER, OR GRAVITY. EROSION IS A BIG FACTOR TO THE ROCK REMOVAL ON EARTHS SURFACE http://grandbaynerr.org/images/Erosion_site03.Grand_Battures.20041201.detail_of_land_slumping.2.jpg

EAR
TH'S WATERS- THIS IS THE MOST RECENT SUBJECT IN SCIENCE THAT WE HAVE BEEN LEARNING. MY FAVORITE PARTS OF THIS SUBJECT WERE LEARNING ABOUT WATERS SUPPLY AND DEMAND, IF YOU REALLY PAY ATTENTION TO IT, YOU'LL NOTICE THAT HOMES AND INDUSTRIES USE SO MUCH WATER. WE DEMAND MORE THAN WE CAN SUPPLY. 97% OF EARTHS WATER IS SALT, SALT WATER ISN'T GOOD FOR HUMAN USE. http://nees.oregonstate.edu/killer_wave/wave.jpg

Manitou and Colorado Water

Colorado, Manitou Springs Water
75% of water that Colorado Springs gets comes from Leadville, Breckenridge, and Aspen. Pipes transfer the water from those areas to Colorado Spgs. The other 25% comes from surface water sources and ground water sources that are close to COS. It takes about 200 miles for the water to get to COS. The water is very pure because it comes from the snow and the snow is a very pure water source.

Manitou Springs gets its water from the snow melt up in the Rocky Mountains/Pikes Peak. The water travels through many rivers and streams. On it's way to MS it picks up many minerals harmful and helpful.

!WATER CYCLE!

  1. What is the water cycle? The water cycle is a continous flow of water through the enviorment. The sun is the energy source that drives the Water Cycle.
  2. Does the water cycle have a beginning or end? No the Water Cycle doesnt have a end. It goes in s circle and the water is reused.
  3. Starting with a puddle on a sunny day, describe how water might move through the water cycle and eventually fall back as rain. The water in the puddle may evaporate into the sky and condensates in the clouds then falls back down to the ground, there turning into a puddle
  4. Create a diagram (using Google docs or word) of the puddle to rain scenario you created for extra credit.

Fuel Efficient-Comic

Fuel Efficient Cars

http://www.newsweek.com/id/123631
This Web site bascially discusses everything about Fuel Efficient Cars how, how much they cost and and how many miles per city and state they get.
http://www.fueleconomy.gov/FEG/bestworst.shtml
This web site talks about the certain types non fuel efficent cars. Also all about size class, engine size, safey fetures, Turbocharger, Supercharger, and ,more
http://www.fightglobalwarming.com/page.cfm?tagID=263
This web site talks about pollution and what can happen if we dont use fuel efficient cars. Also talks about the pullotion. And the ups and downs of car fuel efficiency.
http://www.nutramed.com/environment/cars.htm
This page talks about the pollution coming from car exhaust. And how the goverment is trying to fund to find a way. Also how we could find a sollution to the pollution. Like electric cars or, driving less, car pool and more

Quetions Group 16

What, specifically about your topic, are you going to research?
The cost of fuel efficent cars compared to non-fuel efficent. and how much money is spent on gas per year on average.
What conclusions did you come to?
What do you recommend average citizens do to make a difference? Be specific. This is the main part of your assignment. The usual price for a fuel efficient ar $7,695-13,999 33500-215521 mileage, for a non fuel efficient car $552-2,760. The main thing idea of my job is to help my partners get a good grade, and to figure out how much the cost of fuel for efficeint cars. Using a non fuel efficent car could save money on gas.
What would happen if, worst-case scenario, nobody listened to your recommendations?
If people do not listen to this and they stick with there diesel and gas guzzlers this will cause pollution and if people need to use more gas, this will raise gas prices and finding gas will be harder.
What would happen if, best-case scenario, everybody listened to your recommendations?
If everyone listens to this then maybe we willl be able to clean up the world and clean up Earth. And maybe there wont be so much pollution. And we will save money and gas for other things.

$$$_PENNY_$$$

In class we did a lab with pennys, the object of this lab was to use a water dropper to drop water on the penny. First we put the penny on a piece of paper, with a plastic water dropper we made a prediction on how many drops of water we could put on the penny before it overflows, my prediction was 10. i was off on my prediction by 4, meaning the overflow limit was 14. This happens because the penny can only hold so much water, when it reaches its limit, it burst over.

Ogallala Aquifier

The Ogallala Aquifers is located in 8 states, they are Colorado, South Dakota, Nebraska, Wyoming, Kansas, Oklahoma, New Mexico, and Texas. My roll and purpose, going to Ogallala Aquifers is to find away to reduce the ground contamination. The Ogallala is being depleted and polluted, the irrigation withdraws a lot of the ground water, and hardly is replaced or discharged. The Ogallala is on the Great plains, its made of sand and gravel, its starting to run dry, which is causing wells to run dry too, farms are starting to foreclose, and population of small towns are decreasing do to the fact that Ogallala is starting to run dry. We believe that it will take 6000 for Ogallala to refill and reservoir to its healthy and beautiful condition. Around the Ogallala there are Rockie Mountains to the west, Great Plains to the east, and many farms around it to. This picture here shows the region of the Ogallala.

There are prairie dogs
, grass lands, pronghorn antelope, fox, prairie chickens, and many more types of animals that live around the Ogallala region. Ogallala reveals that Earths waters are being polluted and used to much without recharging. Humans are using Ogallala water carelessly and to much for there consumption, they need to give Ogallal a break to get healthy again

EARTHQUAKE ?'s

Earthquakes tend to happen around the plates

a. In detail Earthquakes happen in the Pacific ocean near the "Ring of fire"
This happens because there is a lot of activity going on around the plates, also volcano's erupting
The area where this is happening it called "Ring of fire
The closest earthquake to Manitou springs is in Denver and people in Manitou springs would not be able to feel it, also it would have to shake a lot more for it to be a magnitude 1. in a magnitude 1 there is more energy than the one in Denver

a. This Earthquake had magnitude of 3.2, it was n Thursday January 15 2009, the location it was 40.953°N, 106.930°W, its distances were 31 km (19 miles) SSW (202°) from Grand Encampment, WY 32 km (20 miles) SSW (203°) from Riverside, WY 52 km (32 miles) E (100°) from Dixon, WY 162 km (101 miles) WNW (286°) from Fort Collins, CO 215 km (134 miles) NW (310°) from Denver, CO

There was an Earthquake in Northern Algeria, that had a magnitude of 4.8, 36.248°N, 1.574°ET

To be protected for earthqaukes, people could move to an area where Earthquakes arent common, or hey could prepare and have a plan just in case.
